Mary has been writing and performing since the mid 70's, first on trombone then guitar. She has studied music theory at Michigan State University and with some of the best guitar instructors in Detroit. With a long career on the road, she has has worked with many musicians from Detroit, Chicago Boston and New York. Along the way Mary has opened for many great musicians including Bruce Cockburn, David Crosby, Rickie Lee Jones, Ani DiFranco, Richie Havens, Lou Reed, Bob Weir & Rob Wasserman, BB King and the Neville Brothers.
A five time recipient of the Detroit Music Awards for best acoustic artist, she has taken her talent and applied it to many charitable and taught for the Bonnie Raitt School for Underpriviliged Teenage Girls on Martha's Vineyard to My Sister's Place, a refuge for battered women and their children in Detroit.
After living on the road and performing in tourist towns and gritty cities for the last 20 years, Mary found herself perusing the halls of great museums during the day and returned to college. She received her degree in history of art and architecture from Harvard University in2002. Her midwestern roots kept calling and by 2003, she moved back to Mackinac Island.
Currently, she is the director of the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau and continues to teach guitar while writing songs for a new CD which she is recording with musician friends from Detroit, Chicago, Nashville and Martha's Vineyard.
